Diversity and Inclusion

Inclusion and diversity

We want Camden Council to be a great place to work and an organisation that we have pride in.

A vital part of this is ensuring we are a truly inclusive organisation that encourages diversity in all respects, including diversity of thinking.

By doing this, we will ensure we continue to represent our communities to the best of our ability and deliver our ambitions for Camden.

What matters to us?

Everyone is able to be their best selfat work: being who they are, being listened to, valued and respected.

People who work here reflect the diversity of Camden, and understand the place and our communities.

Knowing that everyone of us has biases: but we work to understand, challenge and evolve from them.

Valuing and celebrating difference and how that adds to our culture.

Using our differences to help us make better decisions, rather than pretending we’re all the same.

That we are all responsible for calling out anything that is not right, doesn’t support these values and needs to be stopped.

That everyone comes to work with the determination to resolve and learn from the things that are not right.

Not tolerating any form of discrimination, victimisation, harassment or bullying.

Mayor of London’s Good Work Standard

Camden are very proud to be accredited to the level of excellence for the Mayor of London’s Good Work Standard.

The Mayor’s Good Work Standard sets the benchmark for the highest employment standards and demonstrates that as an employer, Camden is contributing to a fairer and more inclusive London. These good practices are also an important step in attracting and retaining a diverse, talented and productive workforce.

GWS were particularly impressed with Camden’s work on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and actions we have taken, especially the publication of our disability pay gap and our continued working partnership with the Business Disability Forum.

What is the Mayor's Good Work Standard?

The Mayor's Good Work Standard brings together best employment practice and links to resources and support from across London to help employers improve their organisations. The initiative has been developed in collaboration with London's employers, professional bodies and experts.

The Good Work Standard sets the benchmark the Mayor wants every London employer to work towards and achieve. Organisations able to meet the Good Work Standard criteria can apply for accreditation and recognition as leading employers from the Mayor.

Camden’s strength lies in its diversity and we actively welcome people from all backgrounds. We encourage applications from all sections of our diverse community, irrespective of age, disability, sex, gender identity and expression, pregnancy, maternity, race (which includes colour, nationality and ethnic or national origins), sexual orientation, religion or belief, or because someone is married or in a civil partnership. We believe our organisation will be a better, more creative and innovative place to work if we can harness the benefit of lots of different perspectives.

We value and celebrate the diversity that exists within our community and look to see it reflected in our workforce. Camden is committed to making our recruitment practices barrier-free and as inclusive as possible for everyone. This includes making adjustments or changes for people who have a disability or long-term health condition.

This commitment extends to all aspects of employment, starting with ensuring that we recruit on the basis of merit alone. Any information given will be treated in the strictest confidence, and will be used solely for the purposes of monitoring our recruitment and employment outcomes for equality and inclusion. We understand some people may prefer not to provide these details; to ensure we are able to accurately manage this important information please select ‘Prefer not to say’ under any categories where this is the case. This part of the form will be separated from the rest of your Job Application Form upon receipt and will not be considered as part of the short listing or appointment process. If you are successful in being appointed to a role with us and you accept this role, we will automatically transfer this personal information to your employee database file. The information in that part of your file is confidential and will be used only for monitoring purposes.
